Introduction to Evidence-based Medicine

As part of the LPHA capacity strengthening activities, the Institute of Community and Public Health (ICPH) will hold a full day training workshop entitled Introduction to Evidence-based Medicine on Tuesday 30-7-2019 at ICPH. Dr. Hanan F. Abdul Rahim will conduct the training.
Dr. Abdul Rahim is an Associate Professor and the Head of Department of Public Health at the College of Health Sciences, Qatar University. She is the founding Coordinator of the B.Sc. in Public Health program (2012-2014) and one of the founding faculty members of Qatar’s first Master of Public Health (MPH) program (2015). Between 2008 and 2017, Dr. Abdul Rahim was the Associate Director of the Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), a social survey research initiative of Qatar University established in October 2008. Before moving to Qatar, Dr. Abdul-Rahim was at the Institute of Community and Public Health (ICPH) in Birzeit University, where she taught graduate courses and coordinated the Diploma in Primary Health Care and Master of Public Health programs. She has provided consultations to a number of international health and development agencies, including UNFPA and EMRO/WHO.
The training is planned to cover the following:
- What is Evidence-based Medicine and why do we need it?
- The 5 steps of EBM
- Formulation of a focused clinical question (PICO)
- Appraisal of evidence, working through an example with an RCT
- Useful resources for practicing critical appraisal
