The Eighth Lancet Palestinian Health Alliance (LPHA) conference “Health of Palestinians Inside and Outside the Occupied Palestinian Territory” was held on March 15 and 16, 2017 at Birzeit University. The conference was organized and hosted by the Institute of Community and Public Health in collaboration with the Lancet Palestinian Health Alliance steering group.
The conference opening session included a summary of the number of presentations and topics to be presented at the conference, in addition to a brief review of the LPHA development process. The conference included 27 oral and 63 poster presentations. Over 400 participants attended the conference.
Participants included academics, researchers, representatives of various Palestinian Ministries and non-governmental organizations as well as international humanitarian and development agencies working in Palestine. Participants came from the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, South Africa, Australia and Japan. Oral sessions topics included: non-communicable diseases, child health, political violence, health research; health services, mental health, and women’s health. A special session focused on Palestinian Refugees from Syria in Jordan.
A total of 63 posters were also presented during the two day conference with a range of topics that included nutrition, mental health, women’s health, non-communicable diseases, eye health and political violence and health.
