Dissemination Workshop on Palestinian Women's Health April 2, 2016

April 12, 2016

Rula Ghandour, Suzan Mitwalli and Shiraz Nasr from the Institute of Community and Public Health at Birzeit University (ICPH/ BZU) conducted a research dissemination workshop on April 2, 2016. The workshop highlighted the main findings of a study completed by ICPH and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK. The project aimed to provide a better understanding of the factors affecting women’s health in the occupied Palestinian Territories (oPt); to strengthen capacity in mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) data analyses, and to disseminate the research findings to a range of academic and non-academic audiences.

The study investigated a range of reported health variables and identified some of their associated demographic and socio-economic factors, shedding light on how context can affect women’s health in the oPt. These health outcomes included: reported health problems two weeks preceding the survey; reported anemia and self-rated health. The study used data from the Palestinian Family health Survey 2010 conducted by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

The workshop concluded with recommendations for future policies and practices based on the study’s results. Three policy briefs on self-rated health, reported anemia, and reported health problems two weeks preceding the survey were distributed to the audience during the workshop.
