This is a three year study which aims to determine the nature and extent of child discipline, along a continuum from the use of positive non- violent approaches to frank abuse, in Qatar and Palestine. The wider significance of such a study is that it should provide governmental and non- governmental bodies in both jurisdictions with evidence that will aid the formulation of laws, policies and programs for both the primary prevention of child abuse and neglect and for intervention in cases of suspected abuse.  The results will also be relevant to the development of both educational curricula for professionals and for the production of public awareness campaigns to advocate positive discipline.
