Health Economics Systems and Management Unit.

1. Economics of the Rational Use of Medications

The project aims to assess the economic benefit of training followed with intensive transformative supervision compared to more traditional practices of train and leave, on the economic burden of the irrational use of medications.

 

2. Effective medicine management & rational use of medicine (II): knowledge and practice affecting the mobile teams.

This work capitalizes on previous knowledge and experience in the area of rational use of medications and effective medications management, training and infield supervision, targeting mobile teams working in primary health care (PHC).

                

3. Patient flow and referral system in PHC clinics

The project aims to describe current trends in patients' flow to health care services provided by  PHC clinics and the referral system within clinics and between clinics and other health care providers.

 

4. EuroVaQ project

The project aims to assess the monetary value of a Quality Adjusted Life Year in a dozen of European countries and Palestine.

 

5. Equity in Health Care Financing

The project aims to assess the equity dimension of current practices in health care financing as applied to the Palestinian health care system.

 

 

 


Epidemiology Unit

1. Youth Smoking in Stressed Environments: Determinants and Resiliency

The project provides empirical evidence for the development of health policies and community based interventions aiming to reduce the burden of smoking among youth living in stressful environments.  This project is a comparative study completed in partnership with research groups from Argentina and Colombia

 

2. Health sector reviews mainly related to chronic diseases.

Health sector reviews completed on a periodic basis and focusing on non-communicable disease service provision, including protocol development for patient management.

 

3. Non Communicable Diseases mortality

This piece of research focuses on mortality trends related to non communicable disease in Palestine. In the process, an assessment of the quality of the Palestinian mortality registration is completed.

 

4. Population and Development

It aims at increasing the national capacity to integrate gender and reproductive health into development and planning processes.

 

 

 


Women’s Health Unit

1. Costing reproductive health services and practices in the Palestine

The project aims to assess the economic burden of practices related to reproductive health, with the aim of proposing policies that would help maximize the extracted benefits from what is being spent on health and health care in a situation of scarce resources.

 

2. Post-partum care in the Palestine

The project aims to describe current practices in post partum care management and assess their impact on the quality of life and well-being of the mothers and their babies.

 

3. Fulfilling the needs of pregnant and birthing women

The project aims to improve  the quality of childbirth care by focusing on poor and excluded women who receive maternal services in local hospitals, To meet this aim, we are focusing on strengthening midwives practices in two hospitals through training, supervision, follow up and the re-orientation of practices towards evidence based care.

 

 

 


Child Health Unit

1. Anemia in children

The project describes and assesses anemia management of children under five years attending PHC clinics in the West Bank. This will help in evaluating the effectiveness of the currently used protocol on anemia management and the value or limitation of the current health information system related to anemia in child health records

 

2. Child Protection

This project aims to assess the general trends in child abuse and neglect (CAN) in Palestine, the training that physicians have received in this area, and their referral practices. The study will assist in developing training schemes for physicians as well as begin the process of developing a referral system for child protection.

 

 

 


Mental Health Unit

1. Political dimension of Palestinians' life quality

The project aims to assess the relevance of incorporating a political domain in international tools used to assess the quality of life of the general population, when applied to conflict affected zones.

 

2. Youth mental health

Intervention research in 4 locales in the North of the West Bank focusing on youth mental health within the context of the community.

 

3. School health

In close cooperation with the MOE&HE, working with supervisors of school health in promoting school health committee activities that focus on youth themselves leading the group and working towards improving the environment - broadly defined- of their school in cooperation with their teachers and school counselor
