On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the Institute of Community and Public Health (ICPH) at Birzeit University, in collaboration with the Swiss Institute for Tropical and Public Health (Swiss TPH) at the University of Basel, organized an interactive workshop to discuss the results of a groundbreaking research project on zoonotic diseases within the One Health approach.
This research project that was launched last year under the patronage of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, marks a substantial milestone in enhancing Palestinian public health. Its main goal is to examine and map current zoonotic diseases reporting and control, alongside cross-sectoral collaboration and governmental bodies structures. By doing so, we are bolstering our readiness for epidemics and pandemics, ensuring a healthier future for all.
During the workshop, our dedicated research team presented and discussed their research findings, while also gathering invaluable recommendations and feedback from key stakeholders including representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, NGOs, and other various sectors all of whom actively contributed their insights and expertise to enrich the discussion.
We were also honored to have the Vice President for Community Affairs at Birzeit University, Dr. Alaa Al-Azza in attendance.

نظم معهد الصحة العامة والمجتمعية في جامعة بيرزيت، يوم الأربعاء الموافق 17\4\2024 ورشة عمل لمناقشة نتائج مشروع بحثي حول الأمراض الحيوانية المنشأ ضمن نهج الصحة الواحدة والذي قام المعهد بإطلاقه بالشراكة مع المعهد السويسري للصحة الاستوائية والعامة في جامعة بازل في سويسرا العام الماضي تحت رعاية وزارة الصحة. يهدف المشروع إلى فحص ورسم خريطة للإبلاغ عن الأمراض الحيوانية المنشأ ومكافحتها، بالإضافة إلى بناء التعاون والهيكلية بين القطاعات المختلفة والذي يساعد في منع تفشي الأوبئة والجوائح واكتشافها والاستجابة لها بسرعة – مما يساهم في تعزيز صحة المجتمع الفلسطيني. وقد قام قام فريق المشروع البحثي بعرض نتائج البحث ومناقشتها وأخذ التوصيات من الأشخاص ذوي العلاقة وذلك بحضور نائب الرئيس للشؤون المجتمعية، الدكتور علاء العزة، وبمشاركة عدد من الخبراء الممثلين عن وزارة الصحة، وزارة الزراعة، وكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين، وقطاعات أخرى.
