Professor Rita Giacaman participated in Harvard’s Arab Weekend which took place on November of 2015. She was part of a special panel on Palestine, which included 4 other speakers. Professor Giacaman focused on the political determinants of Palestinian health. The panel was very well attended, and the audience in general was very supportive of the call for Palestinian justice and freedom.
Professor Giacaman was also invited by Erica James from MIT’s Anthropology Department to lecture on the re-conceptualization of health in war also in November of 2015. This lecture was very well attended, and excellent discussions took place during the sessions on how the impact of war and conflict on health needs to be measured utilizing not only biomedical measures, but also subjective measures of health such as human insecurity and distress, which have been developed by ICPH over the years.
