Justice and Equality: Its Impact on Health in Palestine and Other Arab Contexts

ICPH conducted a virtual dissemination workshop Via Zoom on “Justice and Equality and its Impact on Health in Palestine and Other Arab Contexts” on 17-11-2021. Dr. Weeam Hammoudeh, from ICPH, moderated the workshop, which consisted of three sessions. The first session was entitled “Examining Health Inequalities in the occupied Palestinian territory” and was presented by Suzan Mitwalli, Shiraz Nasr and Dr. Hammoudeh, all from ICPH. In their session, they explored and examined the spatial distribution of key determinants of health at the Palestinian locality level, the impacts of socioeconomic and geographic determinants on access to healthcare and self-rated health.
In the second session, Dr. Hala Ghattas and Dr. Nisreen Salti, from the Arab American University of Beirut, discussed inequalities in health and wellbeing in Lebanon. Then Dr. Mohammad Abu Zaineh from Aix-Marseille University, France concluded with a presentation about his published paper entitled “Bread and Social Justice: Measurement of Social Welfare and Inequality Using Anthropometrics”, which focused on the measurement of inequalities in health in five Arab countries. 
Guests from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Development, UNICEF, Al Quds University, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Aix-Marseille University and the American university of Beirut attended the workshop.
This dissemination workshop came as part of a project funded by Rosa Luxemburg aimed at examining various forms of socioeconomic and health inequalities within the oPt in order to gain a better understanding of the main patterns and dynamics of inequality as well as their drivers and consequences, particularly for health.
